Kapatiran petitions Congress to pass the Freedom of Information Act

Ang Kapatiran Party (AKP), on Monday, 18 July 2011, petitioned the House of Representatives to enact the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act of 2011 through the "indirect initiative" provision pursuant to Sections 3(b) and 11 of Republic Act No. 6735 or the Initiative and Referendum Act.

The Ang Kapatiran Party vehemently condemns the fatal shooting on June 13, 2011, of Romeo Olea, a radio commentator in Nabua, Camarines Sur. He was the sixth media person killed under President Aquino's watch.

AKP supporters in Cebu hold "Rock for Life 2010"
November 23, 2010

The supporters of the Ang Kapatiran Party in Cebu successfully held a free rock concert last November 12, 2010, at the Outpost Restobar in Lahug, Cebu City. Entitled "Rock for Life 2010,", the event's aim was to raise awareness about protecting all human life from conception onwards, as well as protecting the environment, and to inform attendees of the presence of the AKP in Cebu.

Three groups file gun ban bill

The Philippine Daily Inquirer reports that AKP Secretary General Norman Cabrera, Ma. Julieta Wasan of Pro-Life Philippines Foundation Inc., and Leonardo Montemayor of ABA party-list have filed a bill banning the carrying of firearms in public places by unauthorized persons.

The bill was filed using a petition for indirect initiative, a means available under Republic Act No. 6735 for peoples' organizations to have a measure enacted by Congress without the need for a sponsoring elected legislator. This is the first time that the indirect initiative route has been used.

AKP, ISACC discuss common agenda
August 12, 2010

In a meeting last August 12, representativces of the Ang Kapatiran Party (AKP) and Institute for Studies in Asian Church and Culture (ISACC), agreed to cooperate in areas where the groups shared values. These areas include activites and programs such as the protection of human life, dismantling of political dynasties, national debt, and barangay empowerment.

Legal abortion violates human rights

The Ang Kapatiran Party (AKP) condemns in the strongest possible terms the reckless, irresponsible, and inhuman call for the legalization of abortion in the Philippines by the Center for Reproductive Rights (CRR). A foreign law firm, the CRR has released a report where it wrongly blames the continued criminalization of abortion as a source of women's rights violations.

Our nation's pro-life laws do not violate the rights of women. Rather, they protect the inalienable right to life of all persons, including the unborn, around half of whom are female. Abortion is the murder of the weakest and most innocent of all human beings. It is the ultimate violation of human rights.
